Watch BBC iPLayer Abroad
I have been living in Australia for a couple of years now and I have never really gotten used to watching Oz TV, sure they have some interesting sport one these days with the new difital channels but most of the good stuff seems to be from the UK.
For a while we had a subscription to Foxtel, as that came with BBC HD (though that was changed to UK TV HD, which was not as good). The problem here was we ended up paying a small fortune each month just to access a few British programs.
I knew that it was possible to watch BBC online through their iPlayer service, however when I tried to do this in Australia I just got a message saying it was not available outside the UK.
Then recently I met another Brit here and he told me a great way to watch BBC iPlayer abroad using a proxy server. I gave it a go, and at first had a little touble getting the software to work, so I email the technical support guys and they got me sorted out in minutes (turned out I was copying and pasting the password in and windows has this thing where it can add extra spaces in… all I had to do was type it in! doh!).
Anyway the program cost I think $10 a month, which was a good $90 less than Foxtel, and it gives me access to the full content of BBC channels here in Australia. Not only that but I get just about all other UK channels, and most US channels too. Pretty good value!!!
Anyway talk to Ivan over at Get TV Abroad and let him hook you up with iplayer!
