Literature Circles are a research-proven format for encouraging deep discussion amongst students, to elicit critical thinking. The text for our study provides management, instruction, activities, forms, and anecdotes to help teachers implement this structure.

Literacy Coaches face multi-faceted challenges working on a campus to improve literacy: working with parents, teachers, administrators, business leaders, and students, assessing and developing the literacy program, building professional development for teachers based on needs assessment data, utilizing student assessment data to inform instructional practice and placement issues, and maintaining their own sanity while doing so!  This resource provides relevant, real-world solutions for literacy coaches involved in the balancing act of coaching.

Our text was selected since it is one of the most commonly cited texts in trainings regarding the research-based teaching of reading and writing.  In addition, it is highly practical with immediately usable teaching ideas.
